Is there a way to run a Perl script on incoming emails to create calendar events? My company uses its own internal calendar system that sends me emails everytime a new event/meeting is scheduled. I m trying to make a game for the internet browser- that is multiplayer- so I m using Ajax. The client side script is working fine- I think. But every time i reuse a Server Side script (which is written in Perl because that is the only server side script i know)- it gives the same result as the last time- even if i refresh the page. I have access to cgi and perl on my server..however I can not execute any script to work!...They set the directory up to my cgi files to the directory of [cgi] should it not be [cgi-bin]? The cmods are set up correctly..tey also have a directory called fcgi..what is that?..what directory should I store my cgi files in?

I m in first year university for Computer Science- I learned programming in Turing in High school- since then I ve become familiar with C and Java- and I m wondering where to take it now. Should I go and learn Python and Ruby and Perl and get as may languages as I can under my belt? Should I go buy books and start reading? I ve kind of hit a dead end. Ideally I d like to start into networking and learn what there is to learn- but the resources I ve found are either introduction to programming with very simplistic stuff or advanced to the point where I can t even begin to understand what s going. Anyone have any ideas/resource suggestions/particular books or websites that helped them out?

Hello- I m new to the world of computer programming and i m starting off small by learning the code system "Perl" the problem is- i can t seem to get the Command window to access "C:\". It always opens up either as "C:\Documents and Settings\[username]>" or after circumventing the shortuct and going straight to the .exe in the system32 folder: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\". What is the code that is needed to have it read "C:\"? Thank You.

ok heres the deal- my mother bought a blackberry perl- and set it up to her yahoomail account.. then gave me the phone- only problem is.. my mother has alot of spam mail on that account- so im getting about 300 messages a day about Viagra- and Weight loss plans.........

As an enlightened- modern parent- I try to be as involved as possible in the lives of my six children. I encourage them to join team sports. I attend their teen parties with them to ensure no drinking or alcohol is on the premises. I keep a fatherly eye on the CDs they listen to and the shows they watch- the company they keep and the books they read. You could say I m a model parent. My children have never failed to make me proud- and I can say without the slightest embellishment that I have the finest family in the USA.
Two years ago- my wife Carol and I decided that our children s education would not be complete without some grounding in modern computers. To this end- we bought our children a brand new Compaq to learn with. The kids had a lot of fun using the handful of application programs we d bought- such as Adobe s Photoshop and Microsoft s Word- and my wife and I were pleased that our gift was received so well. Our son Peter was most entranced by the device- and became quite a pro at surfing the net. When Peter began to spend whole days on the machine- I became concerned- but Carol advised me to calm down- and that it was only a passing phase. I was content to bow to her experience as a mother- until our youngest daughter- Cindy- charged into the living room one night to blurt out: "Peter is a computer hacker!"
As you can imagine- I was amazed. A computer hacker in my own house! I began to monitor my son s habits- to make certain that Cindy wasn t just telling stories- as she is prone to doing at times.
After a few days of investigation- and some research into computer hacking- I confronted Peter with the evidence. I m afraid to say- this was the only time I have ever been truly disappointed in one of my children. We raised them to be honest and to have integrity- and Peter betrayed the principles we tried to encourage in him- when he refused point blank to admit to his activities. His denials continued for hours- and in the end- I was left with no choice but to ban him from using the computer until he is old enough to be responsible for his actions.
After going through this ordeal with my own family- I was left pondering how I could best help others in similar situations. I d gained a lot of knowledge over those few days regarding hackers. It s only right that I provide that information to other parents- in the hope that they will be able to tell if their children are being drawn into the world of hacking. Perhaps other parents will be able to steer their sons back onto the straight and narrow before extreme measures need to be employed.
To this end- I have decided to publish the top ten signs that your son is a hacker. I advise any parents to read this list carefully and if their son matches the profile- they should take action. A smart parent will first try to reason with their son- before resorting to groundings- or even spanking. I pride myself that I have never had to spank a child- and I hope this guide will help other parents to put a halt to their son s misbehaviour before a spanking becomes necessary.
1. Has your son asked you to change ISPs?
Most American families use trusted and responsible Internet Service Providers- such as AOL. These providers have a strict "No Hacking" policy- and take careful measures to ensure that your internet experience is enjoyable- educational and above all legal. If your child is becoming a hacker- one of his first steps will be to request a change to a more hacker friendly provider.
I would advise all parents to refuse this request. One of the reasons your son is interested in switching providers is to get away from AOL s child safety filter. This filter is vital to any parent who wants his son to enjoy the internet without the endangering him through exposure to "adult" content. It is best to stick with the protection AOL provides- rather than using a home-based solution. If your son is becoming a hacker- he will be able to circumvent any home-based measures with surprising ease- using information gleaned from various hacker sites.
2. Are you finding programs on your computer that you don t remember installing?
Your son will probably try to install some hacker software. He may attempt to conceal the presence of the software in some way- but you can usually find any new programs by reading through the programs listed under "Install/Remove Programs" in your control panel. Popular hacker software includes "Comet Cursor"- "Bonzi Buddy" and "Flash".
The best option is to confront your son with the evidence- and force him to remove the offending programs. He will probably try to install the software again- but you will be able to tell that this is happening- if your machine offers to "download" one of the hacker applications. If this happens- it is time to give your son a stern talking to- and possibly consider punishing him with a grounding.
3. Has your child asked for new hardware?
Computer hackers are often limited by conventional computer hardware. They may request "faster" video cards- and larger hard drives- or even more memory. If your son starts requesting these devices- it is possible that he has a legitimate need. You can best ensure that you are buying legal- trustworthy hardware by only buying replacement parts from your computer s manufacturer.
If your son has requested a new "processor" from a company called "AMD"- this is genuine cause for alarm. AMD is a third-world based company who make inferior- "knock-off" copies of American processor chips. They use child labor extensively in their third world sweatshops- and they deliberately disable the security features that American processor makers- such as Intel- use to prevent hacking. AMD chips are never sold in stores- and you will most likely be told that you have to order them from internet sites. Do not buy this chip! This is one request that you must refuse your son- if you are to have any hope of raising him well.
4. Does your child read hacking manuals?
If you pay close attention to your son s reading habits- as I do- you will be able to determine a great deal about his opinions and hobbies. Children are at their most impressionable in the teenage years. Any father who has had a seventeen year old daughter attempt to sneak out on a date wearing make up and perfume is well aware of the effect that improper influences can have on inexperienced minds.
There are- unfortunately- many hacking manuals available in bookshops today. A few titles to be on the lookout for are: "Snow Crash" and "Cryptonomicon" by Neal Stephenson; "Neuromancer" by William Gibson; "Programming with Perl" by Timothy O Reilly; "Geeks" by Jon Katz; "The Hacker Crackdown" by Bruce Sterling; "Microserfs" by Douglas Coupland; "Hackers" by Steven Levy; and "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" by Eric S. Raymond.
If you find any of these hacking manuals in your child s possession- confiscate them immediately. You should also petition local booksellers to remove these titles from their shelves. You may meet with some resistance at first- but even booksellers have to bow to community pressure.
5. How much time does your child spend using the computer each day?
If your son spends more than thirty minutes each day on the computer- he may be using it to DOS other peoples sites. DOSing involves gaining access to the "command prompt" on other people s machines- and using it to tie up vital internet services. This can take up to eight hours. If your son is doing this- he is breaking the law- and you should stop him immediately. The safest policy is to limit your children s access to the computer to a maximum of forty-five minutes each day.
6. Does your son use Quake?
Quake is an online virtual reality used by hackers. It is a popular meeting place and training ground- where they discuss hacking and train in the use of various firearms. Many hackers develop anti-social tendencies due to the use of this virtual world- and it may cause erratic behaviour at home and at school.
If your son is using Quake- you should make hime understand that this is not acceptable to you. You should ensure all the firearms in your house are carefully locked away- and have trigger locks installed. You should also bring your concerns to the attention of his school.
7. Is your son becoming argumentative and surly in his social behaviour?
As a child enters the electronic world of hacking- he may become disaffected with the real world. He may lose the ability to control his actions- or judge the rightness or wrongness of a course of behaviour. This will manifest itself soonest in the way he treats others. Those whom he disagrees with will be met with scorn- bitterness- and even foul language. He may utter threats of violence of a real or electronic nature.
Even when confronted- your son will probably find it difficult to talk about this problem to you. He will probably claim that there is no problem- and that you are imagining things. He may tell you that it is you who has the problem- and you should "back off" and "stop smothering him." Do not allow yourself to be deceived. You are the only chance your son has- even if he doesn t understand the situation he is in. Keep trying to get through to him- no matter how much he retreats into himself.
8. Is your son obsessed with "Lunix"?
BSD- Lunix- Debian and Mandrake are all versions of an illegal hacker operation system- invented by a Soviet computer hacker named Linyos Torovoltos- before the Russians lost the Cold War. It is based on a program called "xenix"- which was written by Microsoft for the US government. These programs are used by hackers to break into other people s computer systems to steal credit card numbers. They may also be used to break into people s stereos to steal their music- using the "mp3" program. Torovoltos is a notorious hacker- responsible for writing many hacker programs- such as "telnet"- which is used by hackers to connect to machines on the internet without using a telephone.
Your son may try to install "lunix" on your hard drive. If he is careful- you may not notice its presence- however- lunix is a capricious beast- and if handled incorrectly- your son may damage your computer- and even break it completely by deleting Windows- at which point you will have to have your computer repaired by a professional.
If you see the word "LILO" during your windows startup (just after you turn the machine on)- your son has installed lunix. In order to get rid of it- you will have to send your computer back to the manufacturer- and have them fit a new hard drive. Lunix is extremely dangerous software- and cannot be removed without destroying part of your hard disk surface.
9. Has your son radically changed his appearance?
If your son has undergone a sudden change in his style of dress- you may have a hacker on your hands. Hackers tend to dress in bright- day-glo colors. They may wear baggy pants- bright colored shirts and spiky hair dyed in bright colors to match their clothes. They may take to carrying "glow-sticks" and some wear pacifiers around their necks. (I have no idea why they do this) There are many such hackers in schools today- and your son may have started to associate with them. If you notice that your son s group of friends includes people dressed like this- it is time to think about a severe curfew- to protect him from dangerous influences.
10. Is your son struggling academically?
If your son is failing courses in school- or performing poorly on sports teams- he may be involved in a hacking group- such as the infamous "Otaku" hacker association. Excessive time spent on the computer- communicating with his fellow hackers may cause temporary damage to the eyes and brain- from the electromagnetic radiation. This will cause his marks to slip dramatically- particularly in difficult subjects such as Math- and Chemistry. In extreme cases- over-exposure to computer radiation can cause schizophrenia- meningitis and other psychological diseases. Also- the reduction in exercise may cause him to lose muscle mass- and even to start gaining weight. For the sake of your child s mental and physical health- you must put a stop to his hacking- and limit his computer time drastically.
I encourage all parents to read through this guide carefully. Your child s future may depend upon it. Hacking is an illegal and dangerous activity- that may land your child in prison- and tear your family apart. It cannot be taken too seriously.
I have the DCR-TRV350 NTSC Sony Camcorder and I am brand new at trying to upload videos to the computer to make a DVD. I don t have a FireWire- so I am trying to hook it up to the USB. I downloaded a driver for XP from the Sony website (http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=DCRTRV350&upd_id=1452&os_id=7&ULA=YES) and ran setup after extracting it. I then restarted my computer like it said but still nothing s happening after I plug in my camcorcer and turn it on to VCR mode.

A few years ago- my parents bought me a PC- and I got bitten by the learning bug. I started by using a "hooky" version of Frontpage to design my own website- then learnt HTML from experimenting with the HTML tab on Frontpage- then realising HTML doesn t do interactive- taught myself Perl- then finding out PHP did stuff with pictures too- switched to PHP.
Then one day- I got a magazine with a version of Visual Basic on the cover (it was called learning edition then- it s express edition now) and I started to write standalone programs - then I got a version of Delphi the same way- and switched to that- then a version of C++ builder.
In an online programming tutorial- I came across a word in an unfamiliar context- differentiate- and ended up teaching myself calculus. I also figured out in a school lesson that a non-right angled triangle could be split into two right angled triangles and worked out the cosine rule myself.
In a physics lesson- they explained the basics of nuclear reactions- and it struck me that if knocking a neutron out of an atom released energy and reduced the mass of the component parts to less than the mass of the original atom- then there was more going on than we were being told- so I taught myself atomic structure to the standard of electron configuations like 1s²2s²2p³ etc and the internal structure of baryons- then progressed to topics such as slightly more advanced particle physics and parts of quantum theory/mechanics (schrodinger- quantum electrodynamics- quantum chromodynamics etc). Regularly realising my maths was letting me down big time- I d put it on hold to go teach myself something else about maths.
I generally didn t talk about being a swot at home when at school- but that changed recently because it really pissed me off that we were being given watered down information- eg a ¹²C atom consists of 6 Protons and 6 Neutrons with an electron configuration of 2.4 - electrons- protons and neutrons being the smallest you can go. I argued with the teacher that "2.4" was a watered down explanation- and that the nucleons shouldn t be considered as distinct- inseparable entities- but rather as baryons with one of the three quarks being a different flavour. In maths- we were shown that we could estimate the gradient of a curve by drawing a tangent to it- using y=x² as the example. I told the teacher that was a crap way to do it because it was only as accurate as the guessed tangent. Thinking he was being a smartarse he gave me the chalk and announced "Miss O Neill thinks she knows better than me- so she ll take over the lesson now." I got up and differentiated x² from first principles.
Without telling me they were going to do it in advance- they withdrew me from lessons for 2 days- and gave me a set of the exams you take at 16- then the ones you take at 18. I got top grades in Computing- Electronics and Physics- my knowledge of the content of the Chemistry syllabus was lacking in a lot of areas- and in maths I was lacking only with imaginary/complex numbers. They got my parents to come to school for a parent-pupil-teacher conference (which had me thinking I was in trouble) and said that if I had taken the same physics- computing & electronics exams in the Leaving Cert at 18- I d have no trouble getting a top university place. The suggestion was that since you can t take the leaving cert exams without being enrolled on the course for at least 2 years- I take the British equivalent- A levels- as an international student in the November "resits" and apply to university as soon as the application process opens up for next years intake.
My parents really want me to do it- and I really don t want to be spending the next 5 years learning stuff I already know- but as I am now- I enjoy things. On a Saturday- I can go "earring shopping" with my friends- we can take in a film- go bowling etc. If I go to university- at least I ll find the work more challenging- but I ll be the baby. The only one who is too young to go for a drink- the only one who is living with their parents- the only one too young to form a relationship- the only one who can t drive etc. It also means that unless I get into the local Institute of Technology- we will have to move home which will mean my dad will have a huge commute to work every day. It is a sacrifice he is prepared to make- but I m not sure it as one I d be prepared to have him make for my benefit.

The PCRE newbie is stumped at how to specify that with the { } syntax. I can get it to work with:
light.+light
but I want to understand how to use {2-}
I ve used boost::regex- and I think the following would have worked:

but this doesn t seem to work (at least for me) with PCRE.
And actually- what I m trying to accomplish is finding a line with either "light" or "evening" appearing twice ... but not either "light" or "evening" each appearing. An example is 2 Chron 13:11 with "evening" appearing twice.

I know zip encryption is a joke. Someone else is encrypting it. I only need to decrypt it. Thing is- if I extract it using the `unzip` command from infozip- it will insist to use the filenames from the archive; which is not at all what I want.

Yes- they are athletes- that much is true. But aren t they celebrities as well? A celebrity can be anyone that is well known- not just an actor or actress and they do not have to be of Hollywood fame either :)
I m starting on a web-interfaced database project soon. I have no idea how to choose a language. Should I just let my project lead choose whatever they like or is there more to it? Early on- I ll have about 50 users a day- but plan to have maybe 500 at a time. I do not want to pay gobs of money down the road to convert the db while its live. Talk to me like I m a total noob; I recognize this may be a critical decision.
Think of it as a reverse auction site. I will want to archive consumer and producer data for use later- but the primary function is for producers to perform live searches and post bids.
I should have said that I m a noob about programming- not working with folks. I listen- take suggestions- and understand changes have a cost. BTW $30/h is cheap compared to a broke accountant.

Her and I just made a move about 8 days ago. She ate nine days ago. She is a good 8 feet long and is pretty regular. She hasnt gone yet. Bones came out- but nothing else. She has me a little worried.

I bought a ZooMeds heating pad for my ball python and it says placing it on the wall of the tank is better than the bottom when you have a dresser under the tank (which I do).
It s approaching summer- so do I really need to worry about where the heat pad is? Can t the light accomplish the same thing? My room gets relatively hot in summer.
Should I move the pad anyway?
I read on a site putting them in warm water can help with shedding- but do they actually LIKE water and enjoy being in it?
Ive asked alot of questions in the past on how to make an mmorpg but all the answers so far are program it or your a nerd. I got all that and im tired of asking that question. I know there isnt a maker out there to make a mmorpg like world of warcraft now. Ive decided im gonna try to program my own game or mmorpg depending on how much time i have. I am asking all of you which language i should look into and read about and learn so i can make a video game. Either C++ or Python or Visual Basic. Anything just tell me and if you can give me some tutorial pages on how to program. And if its possible tell me what kind of software should i use to help me out. my boyfriend has a ball python and i love her to death but i want my own snake. i have plenty of experience with consritors- but i need help with a columbian red tail boa. im looking into getting one but not sure exactly what to do and how to care for them. HELP!!!

I got a 20L tank for him today (he s a baby) and a pretty big hiding spot and a pretty big water dish.
There isn t much room between the water dish and hiding place- so I stuck the heating pad on the glass next to the hiding place- and put the lamp in the empty space between the dish and hiding place.
Is that ok- because the heating pad and lamp s instructions said not to place them over the water dish.
I don t want to fry him or anything.

Wow sorry I completely screwed up the question s headline.
It said on the heating pad s instructions the better idea is to put it on the glass wall- not underneath the substrate.

hi i recently have gained an interest for african rock pythons and indian pythons- i have experience with multiple large snakes so care wont be a problem however-
what humidity do both require?
what size tanks do they require?
what food can they eat when fully grown? goats??
what is the maximum size they could reach?

Is 40% or 70% humidity better for both breeds? My aspen bedding gets 40% humidity and my bark bedding gets 70%. Which should I use for the burmese and which should I use for the balls? Thanks in advance for the advise.
it will not eat frozen rats i have tried to feed her for about 3 months now and she just ate 3 frozen rat last week i put the rats in the tank that it lives in and now she hisses at me and i think it want to strike at me so how can i break her from that i know i was not suppose to feed in the same tank as it lives in but i really did not think it was going to eat it looks like it is going to shed to so should i give it time befor i temp to pick her up or just try any ways she was not like that befor she ate in the tank i was able to pick her up and put her around my neck and every thing

Hello- I am a 14 year old boy who has played World of Warcraft for the past two years.
My parents have taken away this game a few months ago- and I have been wanting to play this game again.
Here are my reasons for wanting to play.
1. Cheap Entertainment (much less than going to the movies every weekend)
2. Playing with friends. (all but one of my friends play)
3. Learning life skills. (yes- much to opposite belief- World of Warcraft teaches many life skills such as self awareness- strategies- problem solving- etc)
4. Boredom. Here was my day today: Wake up- go to school- come home- program on the computer (yes- I program with C++- Python and GML)- go on a hike- eat dinner- and here I am. Most teenagers have no idea what programming is. I started when I was ten years old.
Here are my parents reasons for not leting me play.
1. Balance (I can spend too much time on it)
2. It conflicts with our schedule
3. I can spend too much time on it.

Has anybody actually seen their ball python curl into a ball? Mine seems really jumpy but she has never curled into the ball I ve heard so much about! So- does this mean she s not actually scared?

She s been loose for about a month now... I ve looked all through my room except my bed because there s only a few inches of space (drawers/bookshelve bed) underneath. I think I would have seen her making her way across the floor by now. I m worried that my dogs or cats could have killed her in which case i m going to be devastated. Anyone have stories about loosing their snakes and finding them again..? Any tips on finding her? Please so dumb answers i ll report them.

I ve programmed in quite a few languages: Java- C/C++- C#- prolog- lisp- python- VB6.
My main languages being Java and C# since the syntax is very similar. I ve programmed in Java for about 3 years- and C# for only a year.
I ve just completed my junior year at a university pursuing a Computer Science degree. I would like to do programming. As of right now I feel like "i m a jack of all trades- master of none" so to speak with my languages.
Should I work on improving my skill in Java- like my Java GUI programming needs some work. Or should I continue learning C/C++ since I only know that basics of it?

i have a 17ft granite burmese python female- she usually eats either one large rat or a rabbit every 10 days but i was wondering if it would be safe to breed duck kill them when they reach adulthood and feed them to my snake or would it be unsafe and the ducks be diseased even if they hav never left the barn. i currently have 7 females ducks in their but i might get 2 males if it is safe to breed them as snake food
im trying to find different sources of food that arent wild caught so i dont have to check them over before i feed. also i am not bothered about any cost as the only eat very little and i have planty of soggy bread and worms etc. that they will happily eat
